 THE CRITIQUE OF PURE REASON
by  Immanuel  KANT

THIS EDITION :

"The Critique of Pure Reason", first published in 1781, has been an inspiration to thinkers for over two hundred years. Fichte, Schelling, Hegel, Schopenhauer, the Neo-Kantians and even modern Analytical Philosophers - all owe a great debt to the thought of Kant as expressed in this epic work, which took him over a decade to write. However, in spite of its impact, it took fifty-seven years before the "Critique" was translated into English - up until then only available in Latin and French. Published by William Pickering in 1838, Francis Haywood's rendition of "The Critick of Pure Reason" (as he named it), remained for a long time the standard english translation. Highly commended by authorities on Kant at the time (among whom William Hamilton and a later translator Max Müller), it is still respected for its fundamental accuracy and faithfulness to the original text of Kant's 1787 'Second Edition'. Although not one word has been added or deleted in this new version, the text has been corrected according to Errata in the 1838 publication, and spelling alterations and presentational changes have been effected so as to further improve this eminently readable translation of Kant's 'Kritik der reinen Vernunft' for students today, enabling them to better appreciate the first encounter of the English with this seminal work in their own language. Many Extra Features.
